Treatment for Infertility

Fertility treatment for couple trying to conceive

It is important remember that it can take up a year for a healthy couple to successfully conceive a child and the chances of having a baby decrease about 5% per year after the age of thirty. So keep this in mind before seeking treatment for infertility. If the male partner is the cause of the problem, here are some pointers.

How is male infertility treated?

One major cause of male infertility is low sperm count and fortunately, this is a treatable condition. The treatment for low sperm count depends on what exactly is the cause and may be treated naturally.

Natural Treatment

Sperm does not like the heat – too much heat can reduce your sperm production. So keep your testicles cool and I am not going to tell you how to do that. Some experts also suggest avoiding tight underwear or clothing, and avoiding saunas or hot tubs. And while you’re at it why not maintain a healthy lifestyle – it’s got to help.

Surgery or Medication Treatment

Males with low sperm production caused by hormone imbalance generally can be treated with medication or hormones that help the hypothalamus and pituitary gland start normal sperm production. For men with swollen veins in their testicles (called varicocele), the solution is to have them treated by a doctor who specializes in genital problems. In most cases, sperm count should improve after varicocele is removed. For men with extremely low sperm count, there is still hope but treatments are often expensive. In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is one option and there are many possibilities under this option.

How is female infertility treated?

One common cause of for women infertility is ovulation disorder. Irregular ovulation usually caused by hormonal imbalance can affects the production of eggs. This greatly reduces a woman’s chances of getting pregnant during menstruation. Many treatments are available depending on the exact cause and may be treated naturally. If your partner has very low sperm count, IVF is one treatment option. Most IVF procedures tend to be costly but there is no doubt that IVF offers hope to couples that would otherwise have none. Use this as the last option.

Natural treatment usually involves a change in lifestyle, maintaining a healthy diet and regulating exercise program. For some women who do not regularly develop mature follicles; there are medications available that are used to induce ovulation. Women with irregular periods often can be treated with medication such as Clomid or Serophene. In more serious cases such as women with highly defective eggs, the only realistic option for getting pregnant may be egg donation.
