IVF Pregnancy
The reasons to do In Vitro Fertilization

IVF is an artificial way of create of creating an embryo outside the woman’s body. The procedure involves combining a sperm cell from a man with the woman’s egg in a test tube. Usually within 3 days, one or more suitable embryos are then implanted into the woman’s uterus to develop naturally. When more than one embryo is placed into the womb, there is always a chance of multiple pregnancies – this may not be desirable as carrying more than one baby at a time can increase the risk of premature birth and low birth weight.
IVF obviously is not the best option for every couple with infertility problems – It’s generally recommended for couples who have failed to conceive after at least one year and have one or more of the following conditions: severe endometriosis, damaged or blocked fallopian tubes, reduced egg quantity and quality, male partner has very low sperm count, and women over 35 years of age. IVF may also be recommended for a patient with unexplained infertility.
IVF success rate is very subjective and can be misleading and there are many factors contribute to a clinic’s results. Some clinics see more patients with difficult infertility problems, even though the probability of achieving success is low. A fertility specialist at your clinic will advise you as to your specific treatment options, explain to you your chances of success, taking into account your type of infertility, your age and your treatment.
IVF, though costly, is the most advanced treatment for infertility available today. For women in their late thirties, it may be the only option. In the US, the cost averages $12,000 – $16,000 and some states require insurance companies to offer some sort of fertility treatment coverage.
