What causes infertility in women?

There are many reasons why some women have difficulty conceiving or can’t get pregnant. About 10% of couples in the United States are affected by infertility and one third of the time the problem is due to female infertility. Let’s look at some of the common causes in women infertility.
Age is one factor affecting fertility. We are simply not designed by nature to have baby later in life. A woman can only have limited number of eggs. So as we age, the number and quality of having good eggs diminish – reducing our chances of having a baby.
Problems in ovulating are one of the most common signs of infertility. Without ovulation, eggs are not available for fertilization. Ovulation problems are usually caused by a hormonal imbalance, resulting in irregular periods. Less common problems affecting a woman’s fertility are a damaged fallopian tube and there is a problem with the cervix.
In some cases, there is no known reason for infertility in women – known as unexplained infertility. This can be frustrating and difficult to diagnose. Even if you are diagnosed with unexplained infertility, you still have treatment options to consider.
Other factors for a woman trying to conceive are emotional and environmental. High stress can hinder a woman’s ability to conceive. A poor diet, excessive alcohol or drug use including can also hinder fertility, especially if other factors are at play as well.
